The prototypes of Yuchi Jingde and Qin Shubao are two generals from the Tang Dynasty. The prototypes of Yuchi Jingde and Qin Shubao are two generals from the Tang Dynasty. They are two of the 24 heroes in the Lingyan Pavilion. Being courageous and skillful in battle, with many brilliant achievements in war, they are honoured as door gods by ordinary folk. As guardians of all families in China, door gods also reflect the modern art of traditional Chinese culture. Ren Zhe tries to find a new starting point in traditional Chinese culture by combining the spirit of orientalism with modern western techniques and by combining classical Chinese heroes with a creative Chinese spirit as well. These beautiful stainless steel sculptures act as spiritual vessels containing the artist’s artistic conceptions and contemporary ideas and bringing them to a wider audience. These two figures are also respected as martial gods of wealth because of their powerful image, good faith and patriotism. These door gods express good wishes for family safety and wealth. They ward off evil and bring good fortune.
